Hannagan Meadow Weekend Ride 10/21/2023
For our anniversary this year we decided to get our kicks on route 666! That's right, also known as devils highway (U.S. 191).
The elevation change, the spectacular views, and more than 400 curves, including over 100 hairpins, and steep drop-offs along this narrow road with no guardrails make this one of our favorite rides. We stayed at the charming Hannagan Meadow Lodge which is isolated in the middle of the meadows and is one of the most beautiful areas in the state.
From the south, the road climbs from the desert floor past the world’s largest open-pit copper mine and up through the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest to more than 9,300 feet in elevation in the White Mountains, crosses the Alpine-like Hannagan Meadows, and then descends through a community called Alpine and on to Eagar and Springerville. (564 mile loop)
